Play YouTube in the background on your Android and IOS
This small trick will allow you to play YouTube videos in background, both on your Android and iOS smartphones.
Getting YouTube in the background on your phone can be quite difficult, unless you have a YouTube Red subscription, that is. In general, the service only acts as a foreground app, thus preventing you from using other programs on your phone while utilizing YouTube.
Closing the YouTube app will stop the video from playing, yes, but there are a few simple workarounds that will allow you to listen to a video in the background while you get on with something else. Here are some very simple ways to play a YouTube video in the background on both iOS and Android devices.
For iOS
- Go to the YouTube site through Safari.
- Search and play the music video you want and wait till the video plays in full screen.
- Next, press the home button; this will bring you to the home screen and stop the audio.
- Now swipe and bring up the control center and tap the play button.
For Android
- Firstly, download and install Mozilla browser on your Android device.
- Open the YouTube site in Mozilla .
- Go to settings (the three dots on the top right corner) and tap on the desktop tab.
Opera Mini web browser (iOS)
Step 1: Launch Opera Mini as you would normally and go to YouTube.
Step 2: Navigate to the video you want to play in the background.
Step 3: Start playing the video, and press the Home button to close Opera Mini.
Step 4: Swipe up on the home screen to open Action Center and swipe left to reveal the music player.
Step 5: In Action Center, you will see the YouTube video instead of your music. Simply tap play and continue listening to your video as if you were watching it on your device.
Playing videos with Firefox and Chrome (Android)
Step 1: Launch Firefox or Chrome as you would normally and go to YouTube.
Step 2: Navigate to the video you want to play in the background.
Step 3: Go to the Settings menu by tapping the three dots in the upper-right corner of the window. Afterward, tap Request Desktop Site.
Step 4: Start playing the video, and press the Home button to close your browser. If the video stops playing while using Chrome, you may also have to pull down the notifications bar and press play.
