Microsoft unveils Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Windows 10 Pro

The operating system has four major features that make it the best choice among competitors, that is if there are any, for high-end server machines which are:

  • Resilient File System enabled(ReFS) by default: This feature will provide servers with optimization to handle data in large volumes and offering security against data corruption.
  • Support for non-volatile memory modules (NVDIMM-N) with persistent memory: This feature will ensure that the read and write speeds are as fast as possible and the files will be accessible even when the server is powered off.
  • Support for Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron processors: The OS will be optimized for high-end industrial grade machines with support for four CPUs and 6TB of RAM.
  • SMB Direct for Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) capability: This feature will allow network adapters to utilize least possible RAM.

The prevailing version of Windows 10 Pro allows connection to two CPUs and up to 2TB of RAM which makes it quite evident that Microsoft is targeting high-end configurations.

The speculation regarding the release was doing rounds on the internet and it was earlier rumored that the OS will be launched in June, however, Microsoft provided complete detail regarding the operating system. Microsoft has also stated that Windows 10 Pro for workstations will be released with Windows 10 Creators Fall update.
